Challenger Sacramento Live
The Sacramento Challenger is an outdoor hard court tournament held annually in Sacramento, California. Formerly known as Natomas Men's Professional Tennis Tournament, the event was a $50,000 Challenger for many years.
Nowadays the total prize money is over $100,000 which makes multiple-times ATP titlists like reigning champion Sam Querrey think long and hard about their participation. The American went all the way last year, winning his first Sacramento Open title. Instead of trying to defend his title, Querrey entered the Rakuten Open's qualifying rounds which so far seems like it was an excellent decision. The American has made the main draw and if he can win one or two rounds, he will have an excellent chance of earning not just more points than he could have gathered in Sacramento, but possibly more money as well. In the American's absence, his compatriots will try to hold the forth down, including but not limited to top seed Denis Kudla or 2013 finalist Tim Smyczek.
Considering the fact that American players have managed to win the vast majority of the titles so far, it would be a big surprise if a player from outside of North America could emerge victorious.
