The reigning champion is the French Benoit Paire who has since moved on to bigger and better things on the ATP Tour. The tournament is largely dominated by French players. Out of the five tournaments (this year's event will be the sixth edition) that they have played so far, three was won by a French player but that's not all! In each of the finals with the exception of the 2012 one where the Dutch Igor Sijsling defeated the Tunisian Malek Jaziri, they were all all-French finals. This means that during each of the three victories that the Galls have produced, they had to beat one of their compatriots to raise the trophy. Last year it was Paire against Gregoire Barrere, the year before that it was Pierre-Hugues Herbert who defeated Vincent Milliot, and during the first edition of the tournament back in 2011, David Guez beat Kenny de Schepper.

This seasons Open BNP Paribas Banque De Bretagne will be the fifth edition of the tournament, coming with a €42.500 total prize money. As usually is the case with French Challenger Tournaments, the event has been dominated by home players. With the exception of the 2012 final, there was at least one French player in each of the four finals so far. On two occasions, French compatriots have been facing each other.

In the first final, it was David Guez who defeated Kenny de Schepper, and last year Pierre Hugues Herbert beat Vincent Millot. In addition to the French winners, the Dutch Igor Sijsling won in 2012 (defeating Malek Jaziri), before Marius Copil emerged victorious a year later, defeating Marc Gicqel. Considering the fact that this tournament is a high-level Challenger event for a relatively high prize, all seeded players are members of the top 200. There will be however, only one player in the top 100, top seed and world number 98 Farrukh Dustov. He, alongside world number 103 (and 2nd seed) Kenny de Schepper and world number 118 (4th seed) Benoit Paire, will be the favorites to win the tournament.

If Paire can play close to his best, he should be able to defeat the field. The reason? He is a former top 25 player, peaking at the 23rd position back in 2013, which is by far the best result of any player at this tournament.
