The ATP Challenger Tour continues this week with the Czech Open in Prostejov. The men of the ATP Challenger Tour are all competing for the chance to move upward into a higher ATP Level such as the 250. This tournament takes place from May 31st to the 7th, and you can watch all the action from the courts, right here on www.watchlivetennis.org. The tournament is Sponsored by UniCredit.
Sunday was the qualifying, both rounds of it, and the qualification finals was held on Monday, deciding who would be playing in the tournament. The first singles and doubles round began later Monday afternoon with Calleri and Belluci in court one, while other first round singles included Granollers versus Hrbaty, Martin and Golubev, and Navarro and Crivoi. Doubles matches on Monday had the following lineup: Massu and Calleri against Martin and Cerratani and Levinski and Zelenay playing Cuevas and Hrbaty.
Day two began unluckily for hometown favorite Radek Stepanek, after he had to scratch out against Pablo Cuevos after coming down hard and injuring his ankle. He was returning a swerve and his ankle twisted beneath him, making it swell up and putting him out of the match. The list of players was supposed to number 32 going into the next round, but with Stepanek seemingly out and Igor Andreyev not able to obtain a visa in time, the list is seriously lacking.
Thomas Berdych had a score to settle with Belluci because of the beating he received at his hands last year, but may now be presented with the task and added pressure of favorite with both Andreyev and Stepanek both out of the picture. Berdych barely beat Olivier Rochus in the first round, and now will face Belluci – two difficult matches in two days.
Tomorrow will also include 2nd round singles from Ljubicic and Kavcic, as well as Berdych and Belluci in Centre Court, and Cuevas and Starace in their 2nd round singles as well. Don't miss the action from the UniCredit Czech Open as these players struggle to dominate their opponents on the clay courts. Get your membership now and you can be there live, watch high quality feeds and streams from your computer as the Czech Open continues tommorow, June 3rd, and lasts until June 7th, 2009.
