Having held in the last ten years, the Ethias Trophy is an indoor hard court tournament in Mons, Belgium. With its $125,000 total prize money the event is one of the more lucrative indoor challengers managing to regularly lure in top 50 players.
Out of the 10 previous winners, we can see several ATP titlists and even two former top 10 players. Last year's champion, the 24-year-old David Goffin is close to that level (currently 15th) but he won't try to defend his title. He will be trying his luck in Beijing instead, competing against the very elite as a seeded player. The Mons organizers cannot hope to compete with that but they still managed to lure in a couple of quality players including last year's other finalist and Goffin's compatriot. In addition to Steve Darcis, all seven of the top 8 seeds are members of the top 100 which is incredible in Challenger level tournament. Outside of the Belgian, each and any of these players could find themselves enjoying a deep run as the second half of the week closes on, but the biggest favorite is probably second seed Jerzy Janowicz.
Outside of Darcis of course, who will try to outdo his already great 2014 run as the top seed of the tournament.
