Challenger Medellin Live
Some of the emerging and bright South American players will be participating in the Claro Open this week, in Medellin, Colombia.
Victor Estrella Burgos of Dominican Republic has bagged the top seed, who last reached the third round in Barranquilla Challenger a couple of weeks back. His overall form has been on the downside so far, seeing that his tally so far is 13-18. The Argentinean Facundo Bagnis has been awarded the second seed, who too is in a similar form as Burgos. He has been alternating between Challenger and ATP Circuits, but hasn't had much luck in either of them. He has failed to move past the quarterfinals in the either since March, when he won the Santiago Challenger. Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil is the third seed, who seems to be in form among the lot. Prior to his quarterfinal run in Santos Challenger, he was the runner-up in Barranquilla. Similarly, 24 year old Renzo Olivo of Argentina too is in a decent form after winning in Santos last week.
It was certainly an impressive feat from the young Brazilian, as he looks forward to playing in the same vein in Medellin too. The tournament will also feature other players like Joao Souza, Santiago Giraldo and Nicolas Kicker.

Held in Medellin, Colombia, the Seguros Bolivar Open Medellin is a South American outdoor clay court tournament. With its $50,000 total prize money, the Open is part of the Seguros Bolivar series (held in four different Colombian cities throughout the year).
Late in the season, the tourney offers a quality opportunity for some of the most prolific clay courters who are not necessarily interested in the European indoor season. This year's event will be the 12th edition in tournament history and seeing its location and surface, it's not a surprise that the event has been dominated by South American players. Not only nine out of the previous 11 winners were South American competitors, but there were only three champions that came from a different continent, Chris Guccione, Paolo Lorenzi and Austin Krajicek. The Aussie won in 2006 and made next year's final as well (losing to Eduardo Schwank) while Lorenzi emerged victorious in 2012, two years before Krajicek winning.
The American chose not to defend his title which means that we will probably see another South American champion emerging this year, unless the top seed and 2012 champion Lorenzi can do something about it.

For the tenth time in the history of the ATP Challenger Tour has the tennis tournament reached Medellin Colombia to set the clay courts on fire. The matches are due from 22nd of July to 28th of July, 2013.
Known popularly as Seguros Bolivar Open in the area, the tournament has created uproar with the tickets selling like hot cakes. Wildcards have already been sent out to the players and the list of singles and doubles teams has been released to the press. The 2012 champion of singles, Paolo Lorenzi, has not signed up for the tour this year. Instead, the matches will occur between three titans of Columbia, three of Argentina, one of Brazil and one of Ecuador. With a fairly progressive record, Gonzalez of Columbia has his eyes set on the trophy to add to his fame, and bring his ranking up from the recent 159th position. Facing him are equally competent Velotti, de Paulo, Campozano, Salamanca, Arguello and Barrientos. All players have records of stars on the rise, and the authorities have expected that this very fact will return their investment with nothing less than gold.
Tickets are still available online, and although many have been sold, people are still expected to flock to the websites and make this venture a success.
