The ATP Challenger Tour goes to Kosice in Slovakia for the next ATP Challenger event, while the rest of the world finished up at the French Open and prepares to head into England for the Wimbledon Tournament. Jan Hajek from the Czech Republic is the top seed for this red clay court event, which is officially called the Kocise Open and runs from June 7^th through the 12^th. Hajek is 26 years old and turned pro in 2000, currently ranking number 78 as of June 7^th. The second seed is Fabic Fognini from Italy. Hajek will face countrymate Ivo Minar in round one and Fognini will go up against Ukrainian player Artem Smirnov. The third seed for the Kosice Open will be Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo, who hails from Spain. Fourth seed is another Spaniard, Oscar Hernandez.

 

 

The fifth and sixth seeds for this clay court Challenger Tour event are from France and Kazakhstan and they are Mikhail Kukushkin and David Guez. That leaves us with two final seeds to make up the top eight and those are seventh, Victor Crivoi and Dieter Kindlmann from Germany. This Challenger event is going to be a great one and it takes place June 7^th through the 12^th. The ATP Challenger Tournament known as the Steeler's Cup, or sometimes Kosice Open, will be held June 6^th through the 13^th with the players of the ATP Challenger Tour looking to take home a decent score in this tournament, held in Kosice, Slovakia. The courts are outdoor red clay, and the draw is for 32 Singles, 32 Qualifiers and 16 Doubles. Players are competing for a total of 30,000 Euros in prize money and of course – a chance to move into another ATP Level like the 250 next year.

 

 

Past ATP Challenger tournaments happened all throughout the month of May, with players determined to be included in the next year's ATP 250 roster and included the San Remo, Italy tournament on the 4^th, of which Kevin Anderson won the singles match and Yuri Shukin and Dmitri Sitak grabbed the doubles trophy, as well as the $100,000 Ramat Hasharon Tournament in Israel, won by Yen-Hsun Lu in the singles and George Bastl and Chris Guccione taking the doubles. Other tournaments included the Savannah tournament, the Zagreb, Croatia matches and the Busan, Korea tournament on the 11^th.

 

As far as the Kosice tournament, this event's history dates back to 2003, where the first singles match was between Martin Vassallo Arguello and Hermes Gamonal and it ended after two sets 6-3, 6-3 in Arguello's favor. In 2007 the final match was with Denis Gremelmayr and Lukas Rosol, and that match ended with Jeremy Chardy taking home the trophy. Last year it was Lukas Rosol and Miguel Angel Lopez Jaen and Rosol won the match 7-5, 6-1. This year's winner will be decided on June 6^th through the 13^th, and will gain some points that will move these tennis players ever closer to moving up in the ATP.
