Challenger Eckental Live
The city of Eckental, Germany will be hosting the Bauer Watertechnology Cup on the Challenger circuit this week. Some of the talented players from the tour will be highlighting the event, and let us take a look at them.
The top seed is the German veteran Florian Mayer, whose last Challenger event was in Germany itself, which he won. Off lately, he has been playing on the ATP Circuit with little to show for. His last tournament was the European Open, where he lost in the second round. The second seed has been awarded to the 20 year old Russian Daniil Medvedev, who is coming in the event with a surge of confidence. He last played in the Kremlin Cup, where he made it to the quarterfinal, all the way from the qualifiers. Before that, he was the semifinalist in Mons Challenger, which makes this young lad a dangerous player. However, he might have to face another experienced name in the tournament - Benjamin Becker, who has been seeded third. He was the semifinalist in Monterrey Challenger, which he followed with a first round defeat in Stockholm Open.
Lastly, Andrej Martin is the fourth seed, who has been playing on the Challenger circuit off lately, but only to lose in the early rounds. All the players are quite well matched in terms of momentum and experience. This should be an exciting one.

Coming with a €35,000 total prize money, the Bauer Watertechnology Cup is played on carpet, indoors. Quite a prestigious event, the tourney will have its 19th edition this year.
If we take a look at the previous iterations of the tournament, we can see some quite familiar names among the former champions. While there is no (singles) Grand Slam champion between them, there are several ATP titlists including but not limited to Rainer Schuttler (who also had an Australian Open final and a Wimbledon semifinal), Rajeev Ram or Ernests Gulbis, who has won the event as a teenager back in 2006. While there are no players of this caliber in this year's main draw, the event will still pack a punch, especially for the somewhat - let's face it - measly total prize money. There will be as many as three top 100 players in the main draw, world number 76 Ricardas Berankis, world number 90 Rubens Bemelmans (the reigning champion of the event) and world number 99 Marsel Ilhan.
Each and any of these players could end up winning the tournament, but the biggest favorites are probably Berankis and Bemelmans, and a final between these two is the most probable finals scenario.
