The RBC Tennis Championships is an outdoor hard court tournament held annually in Dallas, United States. The first tournament took place back in 1998 and since the 2000 event wasn't held, this year's tourney will be the 19th edition.
The reigning champion is the American Tim Smyczek who will try to defend his title and win the lion share of the $100.000 total prize money. There will two top 100 players trying to stop him in his quest (Smyczek is currently 108th), namely world number 67 Sam Groth and world number 88 Kyle Edmund. The biggest favorite is clearly Groth who despite now spending most of his time playing with the big boys, is an accomplished Challenger level player himself. He has won as many as three Challenger titles in the last two years, all three on quicker surfaces (two on hard courts and one on grass).
The Australian has a huge serve and a very powerful forehand, not to mention an adequate volley game that allows him to keep points short and tight, just the way he likes it. If not him or Edmund, Challenger level veterans Smyczek or Tatsuma Ito could go all the way.
