Nonetheless, the Italian has been working hard this year. With a record of 16-15 and a title from Kitzbuhel under his belt, he has what it takes to win here. But given his performance in Biella challenger a few weeks back, he may be in for a tough fight. Taro Daniel has been seeded second, who just gave the best performance of his career by reaching the third round in Wimbledon. The young Japanese managed to overcome all odds and this is something which must have given him a huge confidence boost. Argentinean Leonardo Mayer is making a comeback to the tour after almost a month long hiatus. His season hasn't been that impressive and a win in this Challenger can certainly help him a long way.

Lastly, Daniel Gimeno Traver has been seeded fourth, who too has been struggling quite a bit this season. The US Open is just around the corner, and this tournament is the perfect opportunity for these stars to get some traction.

With its €42,500 total prize money, the Cordenons Open isn’t among the most lucrative ATP Challenger Tournaments but considering when it’s held, that sum is still fairly decent. It is probably rather tough to find sponsors for that time slot when the American hard court season is inching closer to its peak. Not only there are huge Masters Series tournaments during those days, but there are several other smaller events in the week before too, which probably makes it rather tough for the organizers in Cordenons to lure the best players in.

The 2015 tournament will be the 12th edition of the event. The reigning champion is Albert Montanes who won’t be able to defend his title. In his absence, the pressure of being the main favorite will probably fall on his fellow countryman and top seed, Albert-Ramos Vinolas. The Spaniard chose not to defend his Maserati Open title in order to be able to participate in this tournament.
