Challenger Bergamo Live
The ATP Challenger Tour heads to Bergamo, Italy for a tournament next week, and there are actually three Challenger Tournaments that are giving those up and coming tennis stars a chance to earn some money and some points. There is a Challenger Tournament in Caloundra, Australia on hard courts and then another in Quimper, France also held on hard courts. Here are some of the folks that are participating in this years tournament. Italian player Andreas Seppi got a Wildcard to enter and Dominik Meffert from Germany is seeded. Martin Fischer will be playing along with Somdev Devvarman and Simone Bolelli from Italy. Also, Andreas Beck from Germany is playing along with Wildcard Joachim Johansson from Sweden. The Association of Tennis Professionals Challenger Series continues this week with the ATP Challenger Bergamo or the Bergamo International, which is February 8th through the 14th. The tournament takes place at the Tennis Center Mangodi di Cividino in Bergamo and features a prize purse of 42,500 Euros with hard courts being the court played on for this challenger tournament. The top seed in the ATP Challenger Bergamo is Mikhail Kukushkin, having just achieved a career high ranking of 124 this month, and hailing from Kazakhstan. He has earned just under $275,000 in prize money thus far and will be hoping to improve his ranking with this win. Second seed is Karol Beck from Slovakia, and was ranked number 36 in 2005, but currently holds the rank of 131 as of the first of this month. The twenty seven year old has been playing pro since 2001 and sits at nearly $400,000 in prize money earned.
The third seed, Dustin Brown is making waves, last week becoming the first tennis player from Jamaica to reach a quarter final of an event on the ATP World Tour, since 1989. He will be hoping to improve his current 132 ranking. Fourth seed is Lukas Rosol, fifth is Thierry Ascione and the sixth seed in the ATP Challenger Bergamo is Ivan Dodig.
