The total prize money is over €42,500, the vast majority of which could go to the defending champion, but it probably won’t. Reigning champion home player Jesse Huta Galung has a rather unlucky draw, being pitted against second seed Jan Lennard Struff. What Galung did last year wasn’t really a random occurrence between Dutch players. The tournament has no less than seven Dutch champions in its history, sharing as many as 10 trophies between them. The most successful (In Alphen aan den Rijn that is) is Galung who alone won four of those. If he can get past the German in the first round, he could have a solid chance in what surely is his favorite tournament. If not him, top seed Damir Dzumhur could certainly do some major damage throughout the week. The Bosnian is an amazingly talented, albeit somewhat vertically limited (he is only 175 cm) player. Regardless, at that level he could very easily catch on fire and demolish the field if he feels like it.

Considering the fact that he is pretty much the only consistent top 100 player in the main draw, a result like that would certainly not be shocking. If not him, Galung or Struff, Tobias Kamke or Igor Sijsling could also have a deep run.
