The Almaty Tournament last year was held on August 24th, for a purse of $35,000. There were 32 singles, and 16 doubles draws. The singles champion was Sebastian Decoud, and the doubles team of Denys Molchanov and Alexandre Krasnoroutsky took home the title. This year, the tournament purse has advanced to $50,000 and is going to be on hard courts instead of clay.

A couple of people to watch is Eduardo Schwank from Argentina who got himself into the top fifty in February, is will be hoping to win the tournament in Manerbio, Italy where he is the fifth seed. If he does it will be his first title this season. Also, Australian Peter Luczak has had a great season, with 36-14 for matches the first few months of this year, and already has three titles. Both of these players have a good shot at the Almaty, Kazakhstan, tournament.
