The BRC Open Romania is one of the big parts of Bucharest, which is the Capital of Romania and is also the central location for the nation's commerce and industry. The largest building in all of Europe is located in Bucharest, the Palace of the Parliament, and in fact is the second largest building in the entire world. In the past, the French have dominated the BRC Open Romania, especially in the past few years. Gilles Simon won in both 2007 and in 2008 while Forent Serra took home the title in 2005. This year could be another French victory but we won't know until the tournament's final match is over.
Igor Andreev will be appearing at this tournament for what is his fifth time and is at the top of the list of players, so far not able to win the tournament however. In 2004 and 2005 he reached the final only to be beaten each time, losing once to Jose Acasuso and once to Florent Serra. Also appearing in this tournament is Victor Hanescu and Florent Serra as well as Spaniard Nicolas Almagro.
