The 2016 Brisbane International ATP Tournament is an outdoor hard court event, held for the eighth time in Brisbane, Australia. With a total prize money north of $500.000, it is the second most lucrative ATP event of the season's first week behind the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.

The reigning champion is Roger Federer who - after a losing effort in the 2014 final against Lleyton Hewitt - captured his first Brisbane title last year. The tourney is regularly frequented by the best players, trying to pick up some much needed rhythm before the first Grand Slam event of the year. While the tourney will be held for the eighth time in Brisbane, its predecessor was actually first held more than 40 years ago, back in 1972. It was on and off as a tour event for years before finally finding some consistency from 1981 onward, having held in Adelaide.

When it comes to the most notable champions, we can cite the name of several Grand Slam victors, including Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Jim Courier, Lleyton Hewitt (first winning in 1998 as a teenager), Andy Roddick, Andy Murray and recently the above mentioned Federer who will be the main favorite in this year's event as well.

The ATP Brisbane International will take place from January 4th to January 11th 2015 at the Queensland Tennis Centre, Brisbane, Australia. This ATP World Tour 250 event will be in its 7th year.

The tournament will have $439,405 as the total prize money. The main event will have 28 singles players along with 32 qualifiers while there will be 16 players in the doubles draw. The singles winner will get 250 ATP points and $82,040 as the prize money. The doubles champion will get 470 points and $24,920 as the prize money.


The top seeds are Roger Federer of Switzerland, Kei Nishikori of Japan, Milos Raonic of Canada, Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, Kevin Anderson of South Africa, Gilles Simon of France, Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine and Julien Benneteau of France.


The doubles top seeds are Jean Julien Rojer of Netherlands and Horia Tecau of Romania. Second seeds are Rohan Bopanna of India and Daniel Nestor of Canada. The third seeds are Robert Lindstedt of Sweden and Marcin Matkowski of Poland while the fourth seeds are Eric Butorac of the United States and Sam Groth of Australia.

It’s time to end the year 2013 and kick off the New Year with style and what could possibly be a better start than the WTA (Women's Tennis Association) Brisbane 2014? It is going to start from 29th December 2013 and has become very distinctive in status in recent years because of its debut as a combined ATP-WTA tournament in 2009.

On the ATP World Tour this week, an event that is also played by the WTA Tour in Brisbane, Australia on hard courts. It starts on the 30th of December and will be played on hard courts for $486,000, with a singles draw of 32 and a doubles draw of 16. The previous winner of the Brisbane International Live was Andy Murray for the singles and Daniel Nestor and Max Mirnyi for the doubles. It will be followed by the Aircel Chennai Open, which starts on the 31st of December, and the event shared with the ATP in Doah happens.

There were many tennis legends present when the court was opened for the first time, costing $82 million dollars. The Centre Court bears the name of Pat Rafter.
