The ATP Tour will hold the Serbia Open 2012 in Belgrade, Serbia on clay courts, starting the 30th of April. This tournament has a purse of more than 366,000 Euros and a singles draw of 28 and a doubles draw of 16. It will be an ATP 250 event and will be played on clay. The next upcoming event on the calendar is the Estoril, Open, which happens in Estoril, Portugal on clay courts as well. This one also starts on the 30th and the next event after that is a Master's 1000 tournament called the Mutua Madrid Open, which happens in Madrid, Spain starting May 6th.

This tournament started in 2009, the first tournament on the ATP Tour to be held in Serbia. It is already regarded as one of the top tournaments of the year. Pablo Andujar is the top seed for this tournament with Andreas Seppi as the second seed and Jarkko Nieminen as the third. This week's tournament in Belgrade, Serbia is called the Serbia Open 2011 and it will start on April 25th and run until May 1st. A Serbian is the top seed for the Serbia Open 2011. Novak Djokovic started the season with a perfect 24-0 record and now will contend for the title in Belgrade. The Serbia Open held in Belgrade is an ATP World Tour 250 level tournament, that runs May 3rd through the 9th, with a prize purse of 373,200 Euros and a singles draw of 28 and a doubles draw of 16. This is a clay court tournament and joins five other ATP 250 events in May as well as an ATP Masters 1000 and Roland Garros. 2008 was the inception of the Serbia Open, and never before had a tournament been held in Serbia, so it was a risky proposition. That year, Novak Djokovic made his hometown proud with a win over Lukasz Kubot. The tournament was host to over 100,000 fans during the nine days that it was going on. This year, the top seed in this event is Djokovic, and the 22 year old has already done extremely well this year, reaching the quarter finals in Rome and the semi-finals in Monte-Carlo. He'll hope to win another title for his hometown of Belgrade.

Second seed is John Isner, who hasn't had much success on clay, winning only one match this year on a clay court. He'll be hoping to do better in his very first appearance in the Serbia Open. Third seed is American Sam Querrey, reaching his first final match in Houston last month. He'll be visiting Belgrade for the second time. Fourth and fifth seeds are Stanislas Wawrinka and Ivo Karlovic. Serbia has the next leg of the ATP World Tour in Belgrade this week. All the action on the clay starts on Monday, May 4th and goes till the 11th. The singles draw is going to consist of 32 players with 16 on the doubles draw. The event is called the Serbia Open and its an APT 250 World Tour tournament. Players are warming up their swings for some of the best tennis that Serbia sees all year.

This is the first year for Belgrade, hosted at the SRPC Milan Gale Muskatirovic in Belgrade. The event is going to be played on outdoor clay and ATP Player Board Representative Ivan Ljubicic said, “We are delighted to welcome Belgrade onto the 2009 ATP World Tour. The team involved in this new event have shown great passion and ambition in their plans to bring the ATP World Tour to Serbia and we all look forward to a fantastic week of world class tennis in May."

 

The prize money totals over $450,000 Euros and players look forward to playing at the court in Belgrade. Serbia's top player is Novak Djokovic and he will be headlining in the Belgrade event, which fans will be watching closely as he represents his hometown. Djokovic said about the 2009 event, “"I am very excited that we are able to create an opportunity in Serbia to be a part of the ATP World Tour. My family, along with myself, is also very emotional about that. The GEMAX Open is part of the ATP Challenger Series and is also known as the ATP Challenger Belgrade. It has been held every year since 2002, with the exception of 2007, at the Tennis Club GEMAX in Belgrade, Serbia. The tennis competition will be held from the 16th February through the 22nd with live tennis matches taking place on and indoor synthetic carpet. Among the players who have accepted invites to participate at the ATP Challenger Belgrade live are Andreas Beck of Germany, Viktor Troicki of Serbia, Sergiy Stakhovsky of the Ukraine and Olivier Rochus of Belgium. The 2008 edition of the tournament saw Roko Karanusic of Serbia defeat Philipp Petzschner of Germany in the final while the team of Flavio Cipolla of Italy and Konstantinos Economidis of Greece defeated Alessandro Motti of Italy and Filip Polasek of Slovakia for the doubles title.
