John Isner is the top seed, who is followed by Nick Kyrgios. With 10 years of experience gap between these two players, the competition is definitely fierce. Kyrgios has already won a title and has a tally of 26-11, while Isner is still looking make an impact. The other two seeds are Alexandr Dolgopolov and Kevin Anderson, both of whom are struggling quite a bit with their form. The Ukrainian has won 17 matches and lost 13, while Anderson has failed to play in the same vein as he did last season. Apart from these four seeds, there are also a few names who can give the above ones a run for their money. Fernando Verdasco is looking relatively strong, who is coming in this tournament after emerging as the runner-up in Swedish Open. He is coming in with quite a bit of momentum and is definitely one of the favorite ones to win here.

However, with his success coming on clay surface, it will be interesting to see how he manages with the change in surface. With this being the only event on men's tour before the Olympics, these few players have got the perfect chance to gain some momentum.

The reigning champion – actually two-time reigning champion - is John Isner who will try to defend his title as the top seed of the tournament. If we go back a little further, we will realize that the event is thoroughly dominated by American players. Not only the last six winners were Americans, but 10 out of the last 12 trophies ended up in the hands of a player who were from the USA. Among the notable winners in tournament history, we will see several Grand Slam champions and former world number ones. Johh McEnroe, Pete Sampras (three-time winner), Jim Courier, Gustavo Kuerten, Patrick Rafter and Andy Roddick were all Grand Slam winners and world number ones at one point in their career.

This year’s draw won’t include players of that caliber, but that doesn’t mean that the tournament can’t turn out to be an exciting one. The main favorite is naturally the two-time defending champion Isner, but his compatriot and third seed Jack Sock could provide a tough test for him in the semifinal.
