The ATP World Tour begins with the Abu Dhabi World Challenge which will be held at the beginning of 2010, beginning on December 31st of 2009. Two matches that will take center stage on the 31st are Nikolay Davydenko against Jo Wilifried Tsonga and Robin Soderling against Stanislas Wawrinka. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are two more names that will draw in fans for this tournament, as it begins Thursday and goes until Saturday, January 2nd. The name of this tournament is the Capitol World Tennis Championships and it kicks off the 2010 season in style as this three day event offers $250,000 in prize money that was just began last year. Headlining the event certainly are Roger Federer, who has fifteen major championships under his belt as well as Rafael Nadal who was a finalist last January and was also the winner of the Australian Open last year.
The tournament consists of single elimination matches, with Federer and Nadal given the top seed spots and therefore not competing in Thursday's competition. Instead, the winner of the Davydenko and Tsonga match will move onto face either Nadal or Federer as well as the winner of the Wawrinka/Soderling match.
